Avedis LeatherWorks

“My grandfather and my father were both shoemakers. When my father was fifty years old, he switched his business to making saddles, gun holsters and other hand-made leather products.

As a child, I spent many days in my father’s leather shop observing and learning leather working. I did not intend to become a leather craftsman and pursued my career in photography, graphic arts and, eventually, in the conventional and digital printing industry.

My father-in-law was a World War II naval aircraft carrier pilot. He flew 28 missions in the Pacific theater. During his missions, he carried with him a military issued 38 special pistol with a fitted gun holster. On his 94th birthday, my wife and I went to celebrate with him. It was on this occasion that I noticed how worn-out his beautiful gun holster had become.

Now that I am retired I had the impulse to start working with leather and my first attempt was to duplicate my father-in-law’s holster (displayed above). As I began to work on the holster, I was astonished how, after six decades, I remembered how to work with leather. I remembered the many meaningful hours I spent with my father in his shop. Unlike my friends, after school, in the evenings and on weekends, I spent many hours helping my father. Over time, I observed his dexterity and skills but it never occurred to me that, someday, I would put those skills that I had learned from my father to use.

Now, as I work with leather in my leather workshop, I feel as if my father is next to me, watching my work and smiling. There are times when I am cutting leather by holding it down with a ruler, I look at my hands and fingers and realize they look just like his hands. Furthermore, Now that I am in my seventies, I am beginning to behave more and more like my father when he was in his seventies. After all these years, I am delighted to be spiritually reconnected with him. All I have to do now is become as skilled as he was in designing and creating quality leather products.

I am totally immersed in designing, creating and crafting leather products made by hand and using only genuine and quality leather.

Leather

Leather is a natural substance that takes on different characteristics and qualities depending on the animal and part of the hide. Therefore, your individual item may show defects, creases, shading or color irregularities that are considered natural features of leather.
In time leather will soften and become even more beautiful with age. We highly recommend that you protect your product from stains and excessive moisture to protect its finish. We do not recommend chemical cleaners or self-shining treatments as they can adversely affect or dull the finish on your Avedis Leatherworks leather Accessory. We do however recommend wiping gently with a warm, damp cloth.

Collectors Option

Items designated, as “Collectors” are unique in designs and are limited editions. They are signed and are numbered. Collector items get the same care and quality handling as our entire offering. Additionally, depending on the size of the product we offer customizing by embossing customer initials or full names and much more.

Design, Quality & More

Avedis Leatherworks products are designed and hand made by Varoujean, with great attention to detail and quality. The leathers we use are hand picked to make sure of the uniformity and softness is of the highest level. There are times when small spots do appear that are natural in all leather.
